California senate passes hospital worker presumption

The California Senate on Monday passed a bill that would create a presumption that certain conditions and injuries are compensable for hospital workers.

The Senate voted 21-9 to pass S.B. 213, which would create a presumption that certain cancers, musculoskeletal injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder and some infectious diseases and respiratory diseases — including COVID-19 — arose out of employment for hospital workers providing direct patient care.

S.B. 213 moves to the Assembly for more hearings.
